What I expected. Older, but a good location to crash, for a decent price. Even got towels and soap. Laundry service by request.

The guy at the night shift is friendly.

Everything in this structure is ridiculous. We walk in and they made us the double of the price showed in booking. We had to get out of the hotel and book in Internet. The room are ridiculously small,you can not even breath.full of ant and mosquito. The receptionist are very rude. Wifi in the lobby.the area is not so safe at night

There was bed bugs in the bed, bugs everywhere. Dirty room and batheroom. Super smelly. Prostitues were renting rooms next doors and we could hear the noise all night long. It’s a brothel!

It is close to the center, Wifi signal was okay in our room. The guy at the reception was very kind to us and helpful.

Bad location, in the night it does not look safe. The hotel does not look safe itself. We had some bugs in our room that ended up in our baggage and that went in all our clothes!! Bad experience. Spend a bit more money and go somewhere else.

In the day it was ok. At nite it turned into a sex hotel. Dodgy people in and out the hotel. Prostitutes in and out. The roof leaked. Bed sheets were dirty. The electrics were hanging off the wall and the fans sounded like helicopters taking off. This hotel was shocking. Naked men in the shared bathroom washing their private parts with the door wide open. Strange place but cheap and good location

I travel lots and stay in budget places, so I’m not fussy at all, but this experience was the worst of my entire life and would not recommend anyone to stay here: 1st: I booked a room with private bathroom and AC as it is super hot in Cartagena. Well instead they gave me a room that looked more like a barn with 2 noisy fans from the 60s looking very unsafe. They refused to refund me for what I paid and not even given me a discount saying that it was booking.com fault 2nd: and the worst thing!! Since I arrived there was always a man at reception talking to the staff and doing some maintenance work to the roof as apparently the cats did some damages.... spoke to him a few times.... after my first night him and the receptionist helped me moving into my room with AC and private bathroom...... a concrete cubicle without any tiny windows. On the second night I came back to the room from a night out and the same man was at reception for 2 days asked me if I wanted to buy some rum to drink.... I said ok... 10 mins later he cameback with half bottle empty and he wanted money..... I have him the equivalent of USD5 to let him go, instead he pushed me down the floor and took my wallet from pocket, took all the money and run away...... I obviously called the police and the owner of the place said that she has never seen the man... but he was doing maintenance inside the property and talking to all the staff.... Dodgy people, dodgy place.... if u care about your safety don’t even consider this place

The location

- The bathroom was dirty. - The sockets did not work. - The employees cannot speak 1 word English. - The Wi-Fi was horrible, my room was next to the lobby but it was impossible to connect to the internet. I had to go to the lobby to be able to use the internet. - When l left l asked the reception to call a taxi for me but even that was too difficult for them. - The fan was huge and had just 1 mode. I was not able to sleep because the fan made so much noise. - I recommend people to not go to this hotel it is clearly the baddest hotel l have ever been in. Bad hostels are even better than this hotel.

The location is not too bad, looks bad but the locals said that is safe and you can see others travelers walking in the zone.

If you want A/C you have to pay more about 15.000 COP. It is warmer inside the room compared to outside. The bathroom is too small.

Worst Hostel Experience Ever

The location was a short walk to the entrance to the historic center - the only positive aspect of our entire experience at this establishment.

First, after showing our booking confirmation for the quoted price, Hotel Maroel said they had already given away that specific room with air conditioning to another guest. We were originally going to stay two nights, and only agreed to stay the first night because they assured us that we would receive the room we were supposed to have gotten originally on the second night... but on the second day they tried to increase the price by over 30% to get the original room we had booked online (for which we had confirmation). They also refused to give us any sort of discount or reparation the first night, even though our room did not include all the features we were paying for (such as AC, fan, etc). In regards to the room we actually received, it was VERY small. Literally 2 feet of walkway space. If you have bags, there's nowhere to put them except the already small walkway. The bathroom had a sloped floor which caused water to spill into the walkway of the bedroom. There were no windows and no ventilation. Very dishonest and apathetic staff overall that genuinely did not seem to care. Second, when other reviewers mention there being prostitution here, they don't do it justice. There are literally certain rooms that are only available specifically to prostitutes and, in our ~24 hours there, probably witnessed upwards of 15 different prostitutes with clients (and this is just while we were in hallways/lobby). Believe me when I say that the prostitutes will receive substantially better service at Maroel than you, but that's most likely because they slip the reception their cut after every client. Third, there were bugs in the room that we did end up staying in the first night. Not just a bug, or a FEW bugs, I'm talking literally hundreds, possibly thousands on the ground and bed when we woke up. We received many bug bites due to this. When we told the staff about this, they offered to mop them up. That's it.

Bed bug central!

The air conditioning (except the part when it starting dripping on the bed) was very good and powerful - in fact it was super cold to sleep in.

Our room had bedbugs - both me and my friend were bitten alive so we had to check out early. The shower/toilet room did not have a door, only a curtain so you could hear each other going for a number 1 or 2. The hotel is used for sexual activities which are not legal but I am sure the participants enjoyed it. The patio is just two washing machines in the back. The street is full of prostitutes you can pick up. Our room looked like a prison cell - no windows, just four small holes in a wall, showing us the outside car park.
